Volchenkov, Cullen, and Kovalev

Just have been catching some rumors surrounding these players.

Let's start with Anotn Volchenkov. I'm hearing that Volchenkov has made his mind up and is 98 percent going to test the open market. This is not good news at all for us Senator fans. Volchenkov is a must have for any team which means if he does test the open market, the Senators will definitely not be able to afford him when other teams throw offer sheets at him. After the Capitals first round lose, that is where I'm hearing the most interest coming from. They are in need of more stay at home defenders and Volchenkov would fit that bill superbly with them.

Matt Cullen rumors are little better. At this point Matt Cullen is showing some interest in staying in Ottawa. Rumor has him seeking a four year deal. With that four year deal Cullen is willing to take a pay cut for Ottawa to re-sign.

Alex Kovalev has a long summer ahead of him full of rehab, but the news is still good. Kovalev even said himself he would return to the Senators lineup after that ACL injury, and that is exactly what is still going around. Here is the catch. Kovalev, if healthy next year, will take up five million in salary. With Kovalev's age, how many good seasons does he have in him after this ACL surgery?  Some of that salary could go to keeping Volchenkov, or at least getting him to talk.

How ever you look at it, this is going to be an off-season to keep an eye on our team with all these great UFA's available. I'll keep you updated when I'm updated.
