Packers Take Down Battered Lions
The Green Bay Packers dominated the Detroit Lions Sunday, defeating them 26-0. The Lions entered the game missing several players on defense, their star receiver and starting quarterback and the Packers took full advantage.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw for 358 yards and two touchdowns, including a 47 yard toss to James Jones which gave the Packers a 7-0 lead. They never looked back.
The Packer defense was able to shut down the Detroit offense, holding them to a mere 79 yards and generated three interceptions.
Despite the dominating win, the Packers were far from perfect. Rodgers was sacked five times and the Packers continued to rack up a ridiculous amount of penalty yardage. Green Bay was flagged 13 times for a whopping 130 yards. Luckily they were playing the pathetic Lions.
Receiver Donald Driver became the Packers all-time leader in receptions in the first quarter. Driver was greeted with a loud ovation from Packer fans. He then added to his new record, finishing the day with seven receptions for 107 yards, including a beautiful diving, one-handed reception.
All-in-all it was a good day for the green and gold as they were able to get back on the winning track following the bye week. The only injuries were to left tackle Chad Clifton, who re-injured his right ankle, and receiver Jordy Nelson who injured his knee. X-rays were negative for Nelson, but his status for next week is uncertain.
The Packers were surprisingly sloppy considering they had an extra week of preparation for the game, but were still able to escape with a fairly easy win and remain two games behind the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North. The Packers will travel to Cleveland next week to face the Browns before returning home to take on the Vikings.
