Mets Take 3 of 4!

The Mets bats showed up early and often getting an early 10-1 lead. Pedro looked the best he did since coming back from the DL. Getting through 5.2 innings and only giving up 2ER. Unbelievably, or maybe i should say believably the Mets bullpen could barely hold it. Tony Armas gave up 3 ER in 1.1 IP, Aaron Heilman gave up 2 ER in 1.1 IP, and Billy Wagner almost blew the 3 run save against his former team, giving up 2 R and 1 ER. David Wright hit his 17th HR of the season and Jose Reyes stole his 32nd base of the season as the Mets won the game 10-9 and are now only 2.5 games behind those Phillies. The Mets have won 3 games in a row and are finally looking like the team we expected. They have 3 series that they should win coming up against the Giants, Rockies, and Reds. I believe after those series are done the Mets will finally be in 1st place.

On a sour note, John Maine believes his arm injury is actually a strain instead of a cramp...but he is determined to make his next start.

Vote David Wright into the all-star game at MLB.com, he is currently 2nd behind Corey Hart.

Pictures

Be sure to check out pictures from tonight's Phillies Mets game. Tough loss but remember, we are still in first place!

Click here for the pictures or scroll down the left hand tool bar.

Remember to vote for Pat Burrell for the All Star team. Vote early and often!

For complete coverage of the Phillies and Mets check out Phightin' Phils Phorum, Mr Mets Daily and The Turnpike Series .

Oh Billy...

For those of you that did not see the game last night, Billy Wagner blew a 2 run lead in the bottom of the 9th. With 2 outs and runner on 1st, Jayson Werth launched a 2 run homer to left. I was in shock...but somehow they pulled it out. Thank you Fernando Tatis who hit a 2 run home run in the top of the 12th. Joe Smith looked great in relief pitching 2.1 scoreless innings. I honestly can't believe that Oliver Perez has pitched 2 great games in a row, pitching 7 scoreless innings. Overall it was a pretty good day for the Mets (besides Wagner). We have won 2 in a row and are only trailing the Phils by 3.5 games.

Vote David Wright into the All Star Game!

Win, Loss, Win, Loss

The Mets took game 2 by a score of 9-4. John Maine was doing pretty good only allowing one hit which was a 3 run homer to Ryan Howard. 2 outs through the 6th, Maine threw a fastball to Ryan Howard and immediately held his left arm. That is extremely odd considering it was his non-throwing arm. It was only a cramp but it was bad enough to take him out of the game. Hopefully this doesn't turn into anything serious. It could have something to do with his last start when he was complaining of his arm feeling fatigued. It was a close game up until the 8th, when uncharacteristically the Phillies bullpen let in 6 runs. Hopefully the Mets can take game 3 later today and get back to .500...but who knows what will happen with Oliver Perez on the mound.

Phils Take Game One

After splitting the series with the Cards, the Mets continue their streak of wins and losses. Once again, the Mets cannot score any runs for Johan Santana...he goes 8 innings and gives up 2 runs and still cannot get the win. In his last 6 starts the Mets are only averaging 2 runs per game and they are 0-6 in that stretch. So those of you that are saying Santana is a bust go look at his stats, it is not his fault at all. Duaner Sanchez takes over in the 9th and gets 2 quick outs, then Pedro Feliz doubles to left. Shane Victorino follows and singles to right scoring Feliz. Mets lose 3-2.

Luis Castillo has been put on the 15 day DL. 2B Argenis Reyes has been called up in Castillo's place. Also, Carlos Muniz has been sent down to AAA after losing a game to the Cards. OF Chris Aguila has been called up in his place, that adds some depth to the OF.

Johan Can't Hold Lead in Loss

Johan Santana was brought in to give the New York Mets the lift they needed to be absolute favorites in the National League East. So his team comes into Philadelphia to face the first place Phillies and he needed to lead his team back into the race. He faced a rookie who is only making his second big league start and his team gave him a 2-0 lead. No problem for an ace like Santana, he got his team a win. Oh wait, maybe not. Johan gave the runs right back then the bullpen blew yet another game as the red hot Phightin' Phils beat the Mets in the opener and look to put the Mets out of the pennant race.

It was another close game between the teams but the Phillies showed heart and determination like they did in the second half of last year and came home with the win. Sorry rotten apples, your best shot of winning a game this series just sailed away!

Put the Rivalry Aside

Anyone who reads any of our blogs on My Team Rivals knows that I loathe the New York Mets. That is part of the fun of sports. But I have to say that I am proud of Fred Wilpon for the charity event he started with major league baseball to attempt to raise $100 million for veterans. Special hats are being sold to raise money for this cause and I would encourage everyone to buy one.

Hats off to you Mr. Wilpon. Sorry, I still loathe your Mets!

Thank you to all veterans who have put their life on the line so we can have our freedom. MyTeamRivals salute you!

Showdown at the Bank

The New York Mets invade Philadelphia four a four game series this weekend against the Phillies. The rivalry has not picked up like it did last year but expect that to change this weekend. I am confident that the Phillies will win 3 out of 4 as they have the better pitching and hitting.

The team to beat will put the rotten apples out of the pennant race and force them to be sellers at the trade deadline. Maybe they can trade Jose Reyes for a few high school prospects. Oh, he isn't even worth that!

On a personal note I can not wait to go to the game on Monday and watch little Pedro take another Philadelphia style beat down. I was there last August when he got hit so bad he went on the disabled list. I doubt he was hurt, the gutless wonder was embarrassed and didn't want to play anymore.

Time for the Mets to take a beating like England did after we signed the Declaration of Independence just down the road from the Bank.

Phils have interest in CC

I have found this rumor on ESPN.com

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, you can add the Philadelphia Phillies' to the long list of teams who are displaying serious interest in acquiring Cleveland Indians ace C.C. Sabathia.

Sources have confirmed that Sabathia tops the Phillies' wish list but the team is unsure how much it would take to get him, or if they even have the talent to complete the deal. They are exploring ways to make it happen, though.

The Phillies have also been scouting Seattle Mariners' lefty Erik Bedard over the past week. The Mariners had a couple of scouts in Reading on Wednesday to watch the Phillies' righthanded top-prospect Carlos Carrasco, but he was scratched due to some stiffness in his shoulder.

Needless to say, this would not be good at all. Pretty much the only thing the Phillies are lacking is pitching behind Cole Hamels and with a 1-2 punch of Hamels and Sabathia/Bedard they might easily run away with the division. Though, I personally don't think the Phillies have the prospects needed to acquire Sabathia or Bedard. I'm not gonna worry too much.

Mets and Cards Split 1st 2

Monday night's game on ESPN was not one of the Mets best efforts. John Maine had maybe his worst start of the season, 4IP 7H 5R 3ER 3BB. The Mets just looked sloppy, committing 3 errors. Kyle Lohse looked magnificent for the Cards, winning his 10th game of the season. Mark Mulder made his 1st appearance of the season, pitching a scoreless 9th inning. The Mets ended up losing the game 7-1.

The Phillies had an off day Monday.

Last night's game was much better. Tony Armas made his 1st start for the Mets and got his 1st win. David Wright went 3-4 and hit his 16th home run of the season. Billy Wagner pitched a scoreless 9th inning picking up his 19th save of the season. Duaner Sanchez got hit by a line drive in the leg in the 8th, at first it looked like it was pretty bad but he got up and walked off under his own power. Good job by the relief pitchers giving up one hit and no runs in 3 innings of work. Mets win 7-4.

Phillies won last night as well as the Mets were not able to gain any ground. They beat the Braves by a score of 8-3. Also, the Phillies sent Brett Myers down to AAA, he was 3-9 with a 5.84 ERA before he was demoted.

The Mets remain 3.5 games behind the Phils.

Mets and Yanks Split

The New York Mets took yesterday's game by a score of 3-1. Oliver Perez pitched a gem (how often do you get to say that) 7IP, 1ER, 8K. Carlos Delgado continues to hit the long ball as of late, hitting his 14th of the season. Billy Wagner made things a little dicey in the 9th though. With Derek Jeter on second A-Rod hit a long fly to left but Endy Chavez caught it for out number 1. Wagner continued to retire Posada and Betemit, earning his 18th save of the season.

The Mets took the subway Series this year, winning 4 out of the 6 games.

The Mets play the Cardinals tonight at 7 on ESPN, the 1st of a 4 game series. Following the Cardinals series, its the Mets and the Phillies. So, needless to say that should be an easy one. With the Mets currently 2 games out of 1st, that series is going to be big.

Johan .500 Pitcher, Great Deal Omar

Johan Santana lost again today to the New York Yankees and proved that he fits in perfectly with his new team. The overpaid premadonna is now 7-7 and like his team is not better than a .500 pitcher. Don't you remember the hype? He was going to win 20 games and the Mets were going to be the best team in the league.

Just goes to show that rotten apple fans have no idea what they talk about when discussing baseball. Who can understand them with their ridiculous accents anyway. Hopefully they can understand this.

Little Pedro Ready to Hang it up?

Little Pedro may be at the end of the rope. After having a disaster start his last outing, Martinez hoped to regain his form tonight against the New York Yankees. He looked like he usually does when he pitches against the Phillies. He gave up 6 runs on 6 hits with 5 walks and only lasted 5 2/3 innings.

Too bad Pedro, there is always your retirement job!

Learned Something New

I learned something new at Fenway Park last night. I watched the Diamondbacks beat the Red Sox and met a Yankees fan from New York. He told me what the letters in Mets stands for. My Entire Team Sucks! It is all coming together now. We will be referring to the Mets with this acronym from now on!!!

Mets creeping back into it!

Look out cheese steaks, the Mets are starting to wake up. We have a new manager, new attitude, and have won four of six....only 5.5 back and charging!

Last night they did something they never did under Willie; come back late to win a game. The pitching is improving of late, Wright, Reyes and Beltran are waking up, and we get Ryan Church back soon!

It is starting to get interesting.

Whimpering Willie Looking for the Unemployment Line

Willie_randolph Whimpering Willie Randolph may be looking for the unemployment line by weeks end if the Mets do not go on a run. Randolph has lost his team, they do not respect him, and it won't be long before he is gone. But where does this leave New Yorks inferior team? They have no depth, an aging team, and no farm system. Their bullpen is suspect, they have no bench, and are going no where.

Not to laugh in the Mets fans faces, but I will, this team needs a major overhaul to get back into contention. Free agency will not do it. They need to restock their farm system and start from the beginning.

I know you rotten apples are not the sharpest knives in the drawer, but your problem is not Whimpering Willie, it is Omar Minaya. He is a crappy GM that has been given a large budget and still can not put a winning team in the field. So he brought in Johan Santana. He spent way too much for him and signed him for way too many years. Wait until he has an injury and they are paying for him for five years that he does not pitch. And what was he thinking giving an old second baseman with bad knees and hamstrings a four year contract? Castillo owes Minaya big time!

Maybe you can bring Steve Phillips and Bobby Valentine back! They would be better than what you have!

One Man's Trash...

There is an old adage, one man's trash is another man's treasure. I usually like that line when a guy marries someones ex-wife and he says that, but it is also fitting in this case. The Mets, desperate, dropping like a rock in the standings, and unable to compete with the superior Phillies, signed Abraham Nunez to a contract. Yes, I said Abraham Nunez. The guy that had 4 hits in 3 years with the Phillies. The guy that looked like he should have been playing with the Atlantic City Surf. Is this Omar Minaya's way of upgrading a team? You have to be kidding me.

Good luck rotten apples. 5 1/2 out and picking up never has beens. Gotta love the incompetency.

10 Games Above .500, 2 1/2 Game Lead

The Philadelphia Phillies have heated up and their bats are unstoppable. They are now 10 games over .500 and 2 1/2 games ahead in the NL East of the Marlins.

Meanwhile, the Mets flounder around .500. Tough luck!

May 31, 2008

Phillies On Top, Mets Not So Much

The Phillies new MVP Aaron Heilman did it again for the Phillies helping sink his Mets against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Phillies will need to send him bonuses for his great performances.

On an even better note look below!

East W L Pct GB
Philadelphia Phillies 32 24 .571 --
Florida Marlins 30 23 .566 0.5
Atlanta Braves 29 26 .527 2.5
New York Mets 26 27 .491 4.5
Washington Nationals 24 32 .429 8.0

The first place Philadelphia Phillies overtook the Florida Marlins last night and now look to win 95 to 100 games. This is a well balanced Phillies team that leads the National League in bullpen ERA, most innings pitched by their starting pitching, a solid bench, and the best lineup in all of baseball that has scored 60 runs in the last 5 games.

Sorry rotten apple fans, the flights to the Dominican Republic will be coming early this year for your team.

Better watch out, the Nationals are on your tails!

4 1/2 games. Sorry, we do not blow leads like this like your Mets did last year!

Will Pedro's return spark the Mets??

Remember to check out our homepage my team rivals!

The New York Mets get a much needed boost next week with the return of pitcher Pedro Martinez to the rotation.

Martinez is expected to start one of the games against the San Francisco Giants next week. By all reports he has looked impressive during his rehab stint. If Pedro returns to form, it would go a long way towards solidifying the starting rotation. More importantly, his presence in the dugout has, in the past, seemed to inspire his teammates.

I am hopeful that the Mets slump (which all teams...even the Phillies go through) is over. With pedro returning, the Mets may be ready to reclaim their rightful spot atop the NL East!

Mets Do It Again! Lose!!

Willie Randolph and Omar Minaya has built a team of... oh LOSERS. While Billy Wagner wishes he had Mets_collapse not been greedy for the extra year and stayed in Philadelphia and David Wright wonders where the heart of the 1986 Mets is, the rest of the team has found it very comfortable to be mediocre. A year ago people in the baseball world were touting Jose Reyes as the best shortstop in the game. They regarded Carlos Beltran as a five tool player destined for an MVP award. They also looked at Carlos Delgado as a feared slugger.

Reyes is batting a mediocre .272 and although he has 15 steals he has been thrown out 5 times. BeltTRAN (pronounced the Jon Miller way) is hitting .256 with 4 homeruns, while Delgado is at .219 with 8 homers. Hardly the play of champions. The fact is the Mets fans ran their mouths as always and are just now beginning to learn that there team is too old, has no heart, and no future.

Oh wait, I forgot about team savior Johan Santana. Santana was going to make this team unbeatable Jim_fregosi_mets and they were going to win 100 games because of the big trade. The overpaid premadonna is an average 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA. Yet another bad deal for the Mets. The difference this time is it will cost them $151 million. I can't wait for him to be just as successful as other signings like Tom Glavine, Pedro Martinez, and Brett Saberhagen. Gotta love their scouting system. Is this still the same group that traded Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi?

I envy you Mets fans though on one point. You could wizen up and become Yankees fans. Make the switch, the Mets SUCK!

Disappointment

Willie's On His Way Out!

Willie_randolph The Mets have not won a game this week and the heat is on Willie Randolph. In addition, Willie tried to blame race as being an issue for his treatment. Hey Einstein, no one cares about your race, color, creed, or religion, they care about winning. I don't remember them being any better to Bobby Valentine. The controversy and speculation of his tenure adds another nail in the coffin of the overpaid, under performing 2008 New York Mets.

The team seems to not care about anything while guys like Billy Wagner and David Wright try to stir the pot only to alienate themselves more. Face it you two, the rest of the team does not care. Moises Alou is back on the disabled list. Pedro Martinez announced he will retire at the end of the season, and he is riding out the year enjoying his paycheck. These guys clearly do not care about winning.

The even better news is that this team really has no prospects moving forward. They can get rid of some of their older washed up players like Alou and Carlos Delgado, but who are they going to replace them with? They all but emptied their minor league system to land Johan Santana who they overpaid and gave way too many years to. They can sign free agents but that does not always seems to work out, especially for the Mets, and they will sacrifice draft picks in doing so. That will put their farm system even farther behind.

I would say this is all sad, but I am a Phillies fan and am completely enjoying the collapse in Flushing. Hey Mets fans, maybe you can bring back Keith Hernandez. He can probably play better than Delgado and it would stop his pointless comments in the television booth!

Gammons Blasts Reyes

Peter Gammons usually recognizes the facts when he discusses baseball. Although he used to give Jose Reyes more credit than he deserved, Gammons got it right blasting Reyes' play and calling him the fourth best short stop in the NL East.

It was ridiculous listening to people mention Reyes in the same sentence as Jimmy Rollins a few years back. Now the facts have been made clear. Rollins is the MVP. Reyes is at the bottom of shortstops in his own division. Sorry Jose, the bloom is off the rose!

Fox Discusses Cancerous Clubhouse

The New York Mets cancerous clubhouse has made it to discussion on Fox Saturday baseball today. Billy Wagner said he was not calling out his teammates but the media. The truth is Omar Minaya did nothing to improve a lousy clubhouse and now according to Fox, Willie Randolph may be on the block. If the Mets fire him, they have no viable candidates in the organization. They would also have to be creative outside of the organization as there are no real candidates sitting around. Minaya ought to start by rpelacing himself, but thankfully for Phillies fans, he will probably live out the storm.

Hey Omar, I think Davie Johnson may still be alive!

Phillies Back in First, Mets in Disarray

Jayson Werth hit 3 homeruns and knocked in a franchise record tying 8 RBI's to lead the Phillies into first place. Meanwhile, former Phillie Billy Wagner is helping lead the Mets to disarray. The Phillies are 5 games above .500. The Mets are 5 minutes away from a 5 player brawl in their clubhouse as Billy Wagner continues to rip his own teammates while manager Willie Randolph does nothing to stop it.

Wouldn't you think if a player ripped his teammates the manager would step in. Maybe reprimand the player, bench him for a game or two, fine him maybe? Not "Worthless Willie". He just lets it go. I am looking forward to the fist fight on the bench. At least it may show some of these guys have a pulse!

Meanwhile, the Phillies are poised to rule the NL East. Great night in baseball!

May 15, 2008

5/15/08: Implosion Continues in New York

Billy Wagner ran his mouth again after the Mets lost two out of three to the lowly Washington Nationals.

"Can someone tell me why the (expletive) the closer's being interviewed when I didn't even play," Wagner told the reporters.

Wagner then turned and pointed toward Delgado and Beltran's lockers.

"You should be talking to those guys over there," Wagner continued. "Oh, they're not there...big shock."

At that point Wagner walked away.

The Mets can't even get along in May. Can't wait to see how they all get along in September. Omar Minaya did a great job considering team chemistry when he put this team together, NOT!

Enjoy fourth place! Oh your Mets fans, you are used to being that low in the standings!
