Hawkins Heckled, Gives up 21

Paul_oneill LaTroy Hawkins is tired of being booed. Especially for no other reason but the shirt on his back. Hawkins has been wearing the number 21, last worn by Paul O'Neill, and has been heckled by Yankees fans who feel it is disrespectful to O'Neill. Hawkins has decided to switch numbers before tonights game with the Red Sox and will now be wearing number 22, last worn by Roger Clemens.

While I understand the love for Paul O'Neill, this whole situation is over the top. If the Yankees felt O'Neill's number should be retired, they would have retired it. They have not. Then ask, what about Clemens? Recent allegations aside, is he not a fan favorite and someone who has led the team to victory? Where does this end? If a number is not retired, it is open to any player to use it. Paul O'Neill is retired, let it go!
