Farnsworth Has His Say
Kyle Farnsworth met for two hours with MLB vice president Bob Watson as he had his appeal heard on Tuesday following a three game suspension he received for throwing
behind Boston's Manny Ramirez during an April 17 matchup at Yankee Stadium.
"I think we had a good case and our point got put across pretty good," Farnsworth said. "I feel good about it."
Farnsworth said of the incident, "The ball slipped, and as far as I know, I didn't hit him. If I'm going to hit somebody, it's not going to be in the head, that's
for sure. I don't want to
endanger anybody's career, and that's definitely not a
hitter you throw at."
A decision will probably be made known tomorrow or Thursday. Farnsworth has been suspended two other times which may hurt his case. The bottom line is whether or not they think he threw at Ramirez intentionally. Seeing the replay a few times, I do not think he did.
Baseball has gone a little overboard with inside pitches. Pitchers have lost the ability to throw inside and keep batters honest. This is part of why ERA's are inflated in todays game. Good thing they did not do this in Bob Gibson's day!
