You Never Know

I risk repeating myself but does anyone else have the feeling that this Yankees season is like a roller coaster ride? By Friday night I was ready to bury my head and not come out. Then the Yankees come back and split the series with the Boston Red Sox. Is that a good thing? Not really. When you are down in the standings and home you really need to make up ground. But the way this series started you have to give the boys from the Bronx some credit.

Last night's game was no exception. I thought once Papelbon came in our best shot was to keep the game tied until he was taken out. Rookie Brett Gardner disagreed. He had a whatever it takes hit to win the game and send the Yankees faithful home happy and with some hope.

Alex Rodriguez tied Mickey Mantle for 13th on the homerun list and Mariano Rivera recorded the win. After games like that, don't you feel like we have turned the page? I'll let you know how I am feeling after tomorrows game with the Ray!!!

Obviously this upcoming series is another huge one and the Yankees need to get their acts together and win it. Last nights win was a good start to build off of.

Moose Puts Yankees Back in Win Column

Mike Mussina won his 11th game today by pitching 6 scoreless innings and the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 2-1. Mussina cemented a spot at on the All Star team and has stepped up as the teams ace since Chien-Ming Wang was injured. What a great job he has done stepping things up and showing leadership. There was not much offense on either side but plenty of drama as there always is when the two teams play. Each team had only 6 hits.

The ninth inning had the most drama as Mariano Rivera allowed 2 hits and loaded the bases with no one out while allowing a run giving the Red Sox a chance in the game but was able to shut them down eventually for his 23rd save in as many chances.

The win makes Yankees fans feel better about things but the truth is the Bombers have a long way to go. The good news is it is only early July and there is plenty of time for the Yankees to come back!

Yankees Drop Game two to the Sox

The after game club house meeting was said to have given the Yankees clarity. They were said to finally get the message of playing consistent baseball. Johnny Damon had urged the team to play like other rosters of the teams storied past saying, "We've got to go out there and play with passion, put the pinstripes on. There's 26 world championships here for a reason. Those guys strapped it on every single day and went out and got the job done, and that's what we need to do."

What did all of this do to get the team going? Nothing. They lost their second straight game today 6-4 to the Red Sox and are sinking like the Titanic in the division race. The Red Sox now have a 6 game lead over the Bronx Bombers and have guaranteed that they will at worst be 4 games ahead of the Yankees at series end. The Yankees meantime need to split the series or face going into the All Star break closer to 10 games out of first place.

The Yankees will try to turn things around tomorrow. In the meantime, I am heading out to a BBQ at the shore to forget about my Yankee miseries.

Yankees Fall Again to Rangers

Joba Chamberlain ran his pitch count up early and the offense again could not plate runs as the Yankees lost to the Texas Rangers 3-2. Joba only made it through 4 innings and pitch count and strikes to ball ratio continues to be the issue with him. He needs to be more economical with his pitches as this is the biggest lesson to be learned by the young hurler.

The offense produced 9 hits but they only produced 2 runs and again will win the Bob Meachum for the third straight game. Mariano River lost his 3rd game but still has a 0.96 ERA. Again the offense could not bail him out. This Rangers team is not that good and Joe Girardi should be chewing the Bronx Bombers out for losing two in a row to the inferior Rangers. None the less, they need to pull out a win tomorrow.

Yankees Bats Dead in Opener

Alex Rodriguez hit his 534th career homerun tying him with Jimmy "Double X" Fox for 14th on the all time list but it was not enough as the bats did not come through in a 2-1 loss to the Texas Rangers. Posada doubled, Giambi singled, while Molina singled giving the Yankees their only 4 hits while Mike Mussina's solid start was spoiled as he dropped to 10-6.

The Yankees left 5 runners on base and could not squeeze another run against the Rangers. Their bullpen pitched 3 1/3 hitless innings as they held on to the win for Scott Feldman. Wasted game for the Bronx Bombers. The offense was dead for the second day in a row!

Bats Dead in Finale

Where did the bats go? The New York Yankees could only muster 4 hits in a 3-1 loss to the crosstown rival Mets. Darrell Rasner took the loss pitching 5 innings giving up 8 hits, 2 walks, and 2 runs. His command was off today and he threw 102 pitches with only 59 of them being for strikes causing his early exit.

Derek Jeter had half of the teams hits while Johnny Damon had 1 and Wilson Betemit added the Yankees only run with a seventh inning homerun. I mean we couldn't get more than 3 hits off of Oliver Perez? This guy is a batting practice pitcher!

It was a disheartening Sunday afternoon loss. Looking back I should have gone to the beach instead of watching the game!

Yankees Win Second Straight Against Mets

Andy_pettitte The Subway Series continued today as the New York Yankees beat the New York Mets for the second straight game. Andy Pettitte bested Johan Santana as the Bombers beat New York's second team 3-2. Pettitte pitched 6 innings giving up 2 runs and improved to 9-5 on the season. Rain stopped him from pitching further but the bullpen closed the game out with Mariano Rivera saving his 22nd game in as many chances.

The Yankees only had five hits but they walked 5 times, 4 against Santana and took advantage of Johan's wildness. Great win for the Yankees, they go for the sweep tomorrow (remember, the game from Friday was from another series).

Ponson Comes Up Big in Nightcap

As I said earlier, the first game of the doubleheader was at best forgettable. The New York Yankees agreed.Sidney_ponson They put it behind them as Sidney Ponson proved that sometimes a change in scenery can be all that a player needs. Ponson pitched 6 shut out innings against the cross town rival New York Mets and the bats came alive as the Yankees won 9-0.

There were plenty of good signs in the nightcap as the offense banged out 11 hits while the pitchers silenced the Mets bats. After Ponson, Kyle Farnsworth, Veras, and Kei Igawa shut the door on New York's second team and gave Pedro Martinez his second terrible start in a row. One has to question whether Pedro is hurt or if the show is over for him. Either way, we will take the win!

Bobby Abreu had a big night with 4 hits and 3 RBI's. Robinson Cano contributed with a 3 run homerun. Solid game all the way around!

Forget Game 1, Let's Get Them at Shea

Game 1 of the cross town double header was a disaster but the Yankees can't worry about that for long as they head to Shea Stadium and look to get even against the lowly New York Mets. I will not even bother recapping the first game. If you missed it, don't ask for highlights, it was awful. Carlos Delgado had 9 RBI's and Giese looked like a little league pitcher.

I would rather focus on what a fan I met said at Fenway Park on Monday night. This bold guy wore his A-Rod jersey with pride and taught me what Mets stands for. "My Entire Team Sucks". Absolutely true my friend!

Sadly I did not get his name but here he is!
