Chase Utley underwent successful hip surgery to trim the labrum and a bony lesion in his right hip at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The surgeon, Dr. Bryan Kelly, said "the findings were consistent with the tests performed before the operation." The recovery time is still projected as 4 to 6 months which means Utley could be ready for opening day or not until June. The Phillies are anticipating a late April early May return.
Former Phillies Nick Punto and Tadahito Iguchi have both been linked to the team and may be signed as an early season insurance policy.
Pedro Feliz also had successful surgery and had a lumbar discectomy performed Nov. 20 by back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins in L.A. Pedro will return home and is expected to begin a rehab assignment that will last 8 to 12 weeks having him ready for Spring Training.
