Looks like Pat Burrell may be emerging from his slump, and it could not have happened a minute too soon. Burrell went 2 for 4 with an RBI in the 8th which broke a tie game open. Shane Victorino followed up with a 3 run homer and the Phillies went on to win the game 7-3. This was the first game of today’s day / night doubleheader and the Phillies are now one game away from sweeping the Brewers. This feat would put them in a tie for the Wild Card spot and keep them within 2 games of the Division Title. Needless to say, tonight is as important a game as they have played all year.
Brett Myers will get the ball tonight. For this afternoon’s game, Joe Blanton took the mound and, although he struggled throughout and gave up 3 runs, he did manage to squeak out 7 innings. That was a big help, as it preserves the bullpen for tonight. Charlie Manuel decided to use Brad Lidge again today in a non-save situation and again, it paid off. He got the last 2 outs of the 9th inning with only 7 pitches. That means he will be available to use again in game 2. Brad Lidge is simply amazing. Where would this team be without him? If there is an MVP of this series, it is looking like it may be Lidge. One more game to go!
