Super Bowl Champs still getting no respect!

Remember to check out our homepage my team rivals and our Mets and Yankees coverage!

Well, the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants still get no respect around the country. What am I talking about? Well, lets see...

First, the very day after the Giants beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl, Las Vegas  odds makers came out with their favorites to win it all next year. The favorite was the New England Patriots.....sorry, did I miss something, didn't the Giants just smack them around the day before?? Not only that, the New York Giants were actually listed as number seven overall.

Second, numerous publications and prognosticators felt the New York Giants were not even good enough to win the NFC East division. Of course, how could the Giants possibly ever beat the Dallas Cowboys??

Just the other day, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk suggested the Giants would not even make the NFL Playoffs next season.

Am I angry at this lack of respect? Hell no! Actually, I love it. One of the things that Tom Coughlin was able to use, quite successfully last season with his Giants, was the lack of respect, us against the world, nobody believes in us mind set .

It takes a certain attitude to win ten straight road games. I believe the New York Giants LOVE the underdog with something to prove role. They clearly play it well. It looks as if, even though the Giants are defending Super Bowl Champs, they will get to play that role again.

No hold out for Osi!!

Remember to check out our homepage myteamrivals

The Super Champion New York Giants got some great news; Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora will not hold out.

This is obviously excellent news for Giants fans. I will admit to being  very  concerned  when  news  of  Osi's  pending  hold out  was  released.  It  started  to  look  like  just  another  case  of  a  greedy  athlete saying...."I got my ring, now I am in it for  the  big  bucks".

But this was different;  "The Giants are a first-class organization. When it's time to do the right thing, they'll do the right thing," Umenyiora said. "Right now I'm just going to go out and try to earn what they have paid me already."

Osi Umenyiora is also first class. Compare Osi to the Chad Johnson's and Terrill (I need  more  tissues  to cry  into) Owens  of the  NFL  and  think  how  fortunate  the  Giants  are  to  have  him.  This  hopefully  sets  an  example  for the  younger  players  on  the  team.  If you  work  very  hard, put  the  team  first, and excel  on  the  field, your  big  pay  day  will  always  come.

This puts me in a much better mood to watch the draft tomorrow!

Giants to host Redskins in season opener

The NFL has confirmed the Super Bowl champs season opening opponent will be the division rival Washington Redskins.  In  a  tradition  the  League  started after the 2001 season, the opener is on a Thursday night.

The original  game  featured  the  Giants  and  49r's,  the  following  season  it   was  the  Jets  vs  Washington.  The  League  set  these  match ups to honor the Cities attacked on 9/11.

Since then, it has been hosted by the Super Bowl winner.

The game will be held Thursday, September 4th, most likely  at  7:00pm, est.  That  is 90  minutes  earlier  then  usual  so  as  to  avoid  competing  with  the  Republican  National  Convention.
