Once upon a time - about a month ago - Ryan Madson was a big story. His signing was a top priority for the Phillies this off-season. Then, a deal was in place. The Phils' signed Madson to a four-year, $44-million contract. It was big news!
But wait . . . all of a sudden the deal was on hold. Within a few days Jonathan Papelbon would be named the Phillies' closer. Madson was out! I'm not sure what went wrong, but I'm certain his agent cost him the opportunity of playing for the best team in baseball. Oh well, good for us - we got the better closer!
So where does this leave Madson?
Frankly, his name doesn't come up too much these days. The hype that once was is no more! Does anybody care?
