Becoming the first NFL player ever to win the award twice (2006 & 2008), Chad Pennington was named the NFL Comeback Player Of The Year Award today. After being thrown out with the Jets’ garbage upon the signing of Brett Favre, Pennington came to a Dolphins team with a 2007 record of 1-15 and led them to the playoffs in 2008!
Pennington finished the regular season with the second highest passer rating in the NFL with 97.4% and had the leagues’ highest completion percentage, 67.4% (321 of 476 passes). He also threw for a career high 3,653 yards, 19 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions.
And as if that honor were not enough, Pennington was also voted the AFC Offensive player of the Week for week 16, having beat the Jets 24-17 and capturing the AFC East title. His passer rating in the Jets game was 113.2 and that marked the 8th time this season his rating topped 100 points. Pennington has been like a gift from above to this team. We all hope he is the gift that keeps on giving…. Happy New Year!
