Congratulations to the Giants on their lucky Super Bowl win. They got lucky making the playoffs at all, luckier beating a far superior Cowboys team that took them too lightly in their playoff game because they beat them so badly the first two times the teams met. Then even luckier when the Patriots gave the game away.
Enjoy the day while it lasts, next season the Giants will be lucky to win 8 games while the Cowboys march straight to the Super Bowl. Gloat today but look at the Giants history, they win what, once every 10 years or so? Or 17 years in the most recent case. See you at the mistake at the Meadowlands!
As I sit here just seven weeks after the New York Giants historic Super Bowl victory over the "cheatin" New England Patriots, I am finally starting to come down, just slightly, and look towards the 2008 season. As I do,I look first at the division title. Not that winning the division promises Playoff success (just ask the '07 Cowboys), but it is a starting point.
I know the pompous fans of, "America's Team" (by the way, I didn't notice a single Cowboy's jersey after the G-Men sent them packing in the Playoffs), consider the NFC East their divine right. However, I think the Super Bowl Champion Giants (I just love that phrase), biggest rivals for the division next year play not in Dallas, but in Philly.
Think about it; after Mcnabb got healthy, they were one of the hottest teams in the NFC. I recall the Birds going down to 'little d" and doing a number on Romo and the boys in December. And the Eagles have improved, mainly with the addition of Ashante Samuels.
The Giants have the burden of being defending Super Bowl Champs, and being a target for every team. I say, bring it on. Lets see how we respond. It will be tough (I am only talking about the Division for now), but the character and fortitude they displayed last season, over coming all sorts of adversity, winning 3 road playoff games and a Super Bowl against the "greatest team of all time", showed me something.
The Cowboys meanwhile, are a very talented team. No question. However, the strategy behind Wade Phillips deciding they should use the Playoff bye week to "get their minds off Football", was mystifying. Could you imagine Vince Lombardi, Bill Parcells or any great coach wanting their guys thinking about anything other then Football during the Playoffs? That is your coach Dallas, at least until Jerry Jones decides to can him in favor of Jason Garrett. The QB certainly listened, not that I could blame him for spending a week with Jessica Simpson. That will certainly get your mind off Football. How did it work out though?
I say this at the risk of making poor little T.O. cry again (easily the best highlight of the playoffs!). Dallas is in for a set back in '08.
Go G-Men!!!
