What a game. What a game. The Chargers battled against the Tennessee Titans last night in San Diego's first-ever Christmas Day game. There's been bad blood between these teams in past years, but both teams insisted that that was behind them. Whether that was really true is debateable, but the bottom line is, the Chargers dominated.
This was a must-win game for both teams. For the Chargers, a win would mean that they would get a bye in the first round of the playoffs. For the Titans, it was a do-or-die game. If they didn't win, they would be eliminated from the playoffs.
The Titans drew first blood with a field-goal in the first quarter, but LaDainian Tomlinson scored his first touchdown of the night to give the Chargers a 7-3 lead.
In the second quarter, the Titans fell apart a bit, making frustrating miscues that cost them a lot, but were absolutely great for the Chargers. They got called over and over again, resulting in five or ten yards or a first down for the Chargers. It was great for us, but you could feel the frustration on Tennessee's side.
Meanwhile, Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers was on his game. He was fired up and thriving in this game. Maybe because of all his family in the stands. Maybe because of the smell of the playoffs. Whatever it was, he was incredible. This guy is so underrated, it's not even funny.
In the second quarter, we got touchdowns from Darren Sproles and Antonio Gates to put us up 21-10 at the half.
In the third quarter, we got touchdowns from Tomlinson and Sproles again as the offense dominated. The defense also had some excellent plays that kept the Titans from scoring.
In the fourth quarter, Sproles scored his third touchdown of the night. The Titans were able to get one more TD on their side of the board, but it was too late. The Chargers won the game, 42-17.
It was such an excellent game. It was their 10th win in a row and their 18th straight win in Decembers. We got the first-round bye in the playoffs, and next week's game is meaningless.
I am just so excited about this team right now. They are absolutely unstoppable, and I honestly think that it's not going to stop until we are the Super Bowl champions. It's been an incredible season, but it's not over yet. This has got to be our year. It's just incredible.
GO CHARGERS!!!
